Themes: Truth, Freedom

If your goal in life is to do your best, achieve your dreams, create abundance, then the best place to start this journey is from a place of truth. Often we can get caught up in the rat-race of life and its expectations and pressure that we feel a need to be competitive – competitive because we think we need this to survive, to be ahead, to be successful, and to be the best. We become so focused on the race that we overlook our motivations that are based on our fears of not being recognised, not being successful, not being accepted, or not reaching expectations of others, or more deeply, the fear of not being loved, accepted, wanted or being worthy. The super-charged emotions that come from these fears sometimes make us act from a place of desperation, frustration, anger, revenge, and guilt as we manipulate the world around us like a magician, creating the illusion of success, love, and happiness. When we act from this place of fear, we think we are winning because the immediate result shows us that "we can" however this is usually short-lived as the pressure of the truth always weighs us down.

When we act from a place of fear, we operate from a place of resistance, rejecting growth, learning and discovery, as we create limitations and repeat cyclical behaviour and emotional patterns that are unhealthy. Acting repeatedly from this place builds walls around us that isolates us from achieving our true greatness and our Best Self in life. Leaving fear aside and working from a place of truth means living with integrity. Integrity aligns us with the reality of who we are, where we can live authentically and experience the ultimate freedom of expression.

Here are 6 ways to begin living in truth:

  1. Be real about how you feel. There is no point to ignore your feelings and rationalise them and there is no good by sweeping them under the carpet. Your feelings are your inner wisdom guiding you towards or away from something that serves you or not. Learn to acknowledge your feelings, see them as helpful guides.

  2. Listen in and acknowledge your instinct. Your gut instinct never moves you towards pain or challenges in life, so listen in. At the moment you may not understand the reasons, but trust yourself and go for it.

  3. When you react to a situation with a negative emotion or thought, you are acting from a place of fear. Before you react, ask yourself why do you fear? Try to identify the cause of emotions by writing them down. Before you act, ask yourself, what would my Best Self do?

  4. When you fear speaking your truth, ask yourself what is the worse that can happen? Remember you can only control how you feel and think and not the reaction of the other person. We all have our individual journey in life and we need to live our journey as authentically as possible to be able to live in freedom and become our Best Self in life. When we choose to ignore how we think to avoid a challenge or conflict, we are only building ourselves a bigger hurdle that will need to be faced sooner or later!

  5. Identify when your ego is talking or when your inner-self is speaking your truth. When you are comparing, defending, or praising yourself to others, your ego is talking. When your ego is talking you fears are talking. There is no need for this as there is no need for you to prove yourself. The truth of who you are is obvious by the way you walk, talk and act. If you don’t like the way you walk, talk and act, commit to changing your way of life through small, manageable steps.

  6. Learn to speak your boundaries and ask for what you want. Bending over backwards never got you moving forward…just looking backwards! If you are sick of “people taking advantage of you” or "never moving forward” in life, then it is time to take a look at how you are setting and communicating your boundaries. Remember, we teach people how to treat us through our words and behaviours so ask yourself, what am I teaching others by not speaking up clearly?

Anytime you are not speaking the truth, you are making a choice that moves you away from wisdom. With wisdom there is truth, authenticity, vulnerability, growth, discovery, simplicity, and ultimate freedom. Just remember, your truth is yours only. It doesn’t require the validation of others. Give yourself the best chance to experience an amazing life and live your unique life from the simple truth!
